welcoming what’s here
This practice is part of the Still Point collection — a set of reflections designed to help you pause, think clearly, and lead with intention.
Practice 2: Welcoming What’s Here
Use this when a strong emotion is present, or when you sense that your mood may be shaping your thinking more than you realise.
Purpose
To pause and acknowledge what you are feeling, increasing emotional clarity and reducing reactivity before moving to decisions.
Set-up
You will need a pen and paper, and perhaps coloured pens. Sit somewhere comfortable and allow around 15 minutes.
Flow
Notice how you are feeling right now. Choose one feeling instinctively.
Allow it to be present without trying to change it.
Explore it through imagination and sensory detail:
- If this feeling were an image, what would it be?
- What colours, textures or shapes are present?
- What sounds would be there?
- What might it smell or feel like?Capture whatever comes in words or pictures.
Choose two or three words that feel important.
Ask yourself: how might this feeling be influencing my thinking right now?
